Army Spc Patrick Tinnell

KIA April 19, 2006 Iraq

25, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed April 19 by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device while he was on a dismounted combat patrol in Siniyah, Iraq.

Spc. Tinnell was the first from Lake Havasu City to be killed in action during the Global War on Terror, and the impact it had on the community has been obvious and lasting. Like Harmon’s death decades before him, Tinnell’s passing inspired the town to come together in support of his family to build the Tinnell Memorial Sports Park, a skate park with a feature designed like Tinnell’s helmet. Opened in 2013, the park is now the largest multi-use skate park in Arizona and the Southwest.
