Tatjana Reed

Army Sgt 

Died July 22, 2004 Serving  During Operation Iraqi Freedom 

34, of Fort Campbell, Ky.; assigned to the 66th  Transportation Company, Kaiserslautern, Germany;  killed July 22 when an improvised explosive device  detonated near her convoy vehicle in Samarra, Iraq. 

Reed, 34, was killed July 22 when a homemade  bomb detonated near her convoy in Samarra. Another  soldier, Spc. Torey J. Dantzler, 22, of Columbia, La.,  also died in the explosion. Reed was a truck driver in  the unit, which had been in Iraq since January. 

Reed had previously served at a number of Army  posts, including Fort Knox and Fort Campbell in  Kentucky, and in Kosovo. 

She had been stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany.  Reed was born in Germany and graduated from high  school there. Her Army records list Fort Campbell, Ky.  where she was previously stationed as her  hometown. She served in the Army for more than a  decade, graduating from basic training in February  1991. 

“She loved the Army,” her mother, Brigitte Dykty, of  Clarksville, Tenn., said after learning of her daughter’s  death. In addition to her mother, Reed is survived by  a 10-year-old daughter, Genevieve Reed. 

As a result of her service in Iraq, Reed was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
